Why is hot yoga one of the most popular yoga styles in the world?

Hot Yoga attracts people because of the unique heat element & because our Signature HotC is a set sequence of postures. Hot Yoga is yoga that’s practiced in a room heated up to 40 degree celsius while most Yoga styles are practiced in normal room temperature. Heat helps promote sweat faster than other styles of Yoga, especially for beginners. A set sequence allows your body to gradually adjust & eventually get deeper into the postures. Hot Yoga poses are mostly static with rest in between suitable for all levels, particularly for beginners.

What are the benefits of the heat in hot yoga?

Heat in the room helps promote more sweat and thus flushes toxins from your body. It also helps loosen up tendons & ligaments in your body, allowing you to go deeper into postures & prevent injuries. The heated environment helps to raise your heart rate, which in turn means you burn more calories.

Will hot yoga help me lose weight and tone my body?

The use of breath & heat (created by internal & external sources) combining with Yoga poses increases heart rate, metabolism, stimulates elimination, and reduces food cravings. What are the benefits of hot yoga?

Weight loss
The systematic use of breath & internal heat increases metabolism, induces sweat, stimulates elimination, and reduces food cravings, resulting in weight loss. One Hot Yoga class can burn in between 400-700 kcal.

Strength and Flexibility
With regular asana practice (postures), weak muscles are strengthened; tight muscles become more flexible bringing balance to the body. By learning how to breathe properly during Hot Yoga, the mind is able to better focus, bringing strength & flexibility to both body & mind.

Circulation
Practiced dynamically, (Hot) Yoga raises the heart rate & increases the circulation of oxygen-rich blood to every cell in the body. It increases blood circulation to the joints, connective tissues, and internal organs. asanas (postures) create opening and spaciousness so blood can go to places that are generally closed & tight.

Detoxification (mind & body)
By breathing deeply and deliberately, stale air is removed from the lungs. Heat generated externally & internally helps to induce sweat, detoxify your skin, and increases circulation by raising your heart rate.

Confidence
Practicing (Hot) Yoga postures brings a great sense of well being. learning how to breathe through a stressful posture translates into dealing with stressful situations with calm & grace in your daily life.

Breath Control
By practicing breath/movement coordination, we learn to focus the mind. Over time, it becomes possible to maintain a deep, consistent breath throughout an asana practice, regardless of the level of difficulty or the discomfort. In this manner, (Hot) Yoga teaches us that breath is a tool to help control our state of mind, regardless of the daily stresses we encounter.

Overall Fitness
The practice of asana (postures) is a rare physical activity that promotes wellness in body & mind. When practiced with mindfulness, (Hot) Yoga is an exercise system that will reduce the imbalances that lead to injuries & complications later on in life.

Reduces Stress
Stresses in our daily lives have a direct impact on our body, affecting our digestion, circulation, immunity, and emotions. Prolonged stress has been proven to lead to serious diseases. A regular (Hot) Yoga practice calms the body & mind, rebalances the nervous system, boosts the immune system, and detoxifies the body.

Hot Pilates

What are the benefits of hot pilates?

Hot Pilates not only increases awareness, it also makes you more flexible.

Are you still not sure & have more questions? Then please don’t hesitate to reach out to one of our expert teachers to answer them.

What is pilates?

Pilates is all about posture, stability, coordination and breathing. It makes your muscles stronger and your body more flexible. The goal is to create a strong core. This core is formed by the muscles around your abdomen, back, and pelvis. You use these muscles every day with almost every movement you do. The idea is: if the core is strong & flexible, you have more stability in the rest of your body. It also reduces the chance of injuries.
Hot Pilates and Power Pilates are variations on “regular” Pilates, but with the same basic philosophy.

Pilates principles

1. Centering: bringing the focus to the center of the body, the powerhouse area between the lower ribs & pubic bone.
2. Concentration: conscious control of movement enhances body awareness
3. Control: every Pilates exercise is done with complete muscular control. You’ll achieve the best results by practicing proper form; movement is controlled by continuous awareness.
4. Breath: most Pilates exercises coordinate with the breath, and using the breath properly is an integral part of Pilates exercises. Deep, coordinated breathing helps activate deep muscles & keeps you focused.
5. Flow: Pilates exercise is done in a flowing manner. Fluidity, grace, and ease are goals applied to all exercises.

What are the benefits of pilates?

– increased muscle strength and tone, particularly of your abdominal muscles, lower back, hips and buttocks (the ‘core muscles’ of your body)
– improved posture
– tone & build long, lean muscles
– balanced muscular strength on both sides of your body
– relief from back pain and joint stress
– a stronger, healthier back
– challenge deep abdominal muscles to support the core
– a flatter stomach
– engage the mind & enhance body awareness
– condition efficient patterns of movement, making the body less prone to injury
– reduce stress, relieve tension, boost energy through deep stretching
– restore postural alignment
– promote recovery from strain or injury
– increase joint range of motion
– improved circulation
– enhance mobility, agility, and stamina
– improve the way your body looks & feels

How often should I do pilates?

Try to work out 2-4 times a week, taking a day off in between sessions to rest or enjoy some kind of cardiovascular activity (walking, bicycling, swimming). We highly recommend combining Hot Pilates with Hot Yoga. You should start seeing & feeling noticeable results in about 10 sessions (or less!)

Why do some people feel dizzy during or after hot yoga class?

Possibly not breathing properly or not drinking enough water; eating too much before class or not eating for a long time prior & having low blood sugar. Pace your practice & remind yourself to breath deeply through the class to help release the dizziness.

Can I practice yoga during my menstruation?

It is perfectly safe to do Hot Yoga when menstruating, although inverted postures are normally the ones to be avoided during menstruation. Hot Yoga is very good for toning the reproductive system as it directly affects the reproductive organs & the endocrine glands, pituitary, pineal and thyroid gland in particular.
For other styles of Yoga, it is recommended to take rest for the first two – three days and/or avoid inversions like shoulder stand, headstand, and handstand during your period. Some prefer a more restorative practice during this time. Seek the help of your teacher if you have any further questions.

At movements, your teacher is available for you 30 minutes before & after every class. We encourage you to share, ask questions, and use our knowledgeable teachers to help you progress in your practice.

Do you get more benefits practicing yoga in a heated room?

The heated environment helps to raise your heart rate, which in turn means you burn more calories. The heat also makes it easier to flush toxins from your body through sweat. The same benefits can be attained without heat, but the student must concentrate on a strong breathing technique to get their own heart rate up and build the same core temperature, such as through vinyasa or ashtanga yoga systems. The heat also helps to go deeper into postures.

I have been practicing hot yoga for six months. Can I try a vinyasa or flow class?

Start any time you want; there are no rules for this. These yoga styles are a great compliment to Hot Yoga, as they focus more on upper body strength. We suggest you start with Hot Flow next to your Hot C lesson.

How many times per week should I practice?

3-6 times per week depending on your schedule, health, and availability. Having a rest day is also important, as practicing 7 days a week can lead to injury.

Is yoga aerobic?

Aerobic exercise occurs when an elevated heart rate is sustained for twenty minutes or more. Aerobic activities are particularly helpful for strengthening the heart, burning excess fat, and increasing the body’s metabolism. Hot Yoga can be a great aerobic workout, but it depends on the student & on the class being taken. In order to sustain an elevated heart rate during practice, students should try their best to actively participate in all postures & take classes they find challenging.
